FAQ

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE FIRST CLASS?
At your first class you will be introduced to the studio, have your health stats taken and given information about the Pilates system and how it works, try out the Pilates apparatus and participate in an actual Pilates class to determine what will work best to achieve your goals.

HOW LONG IS A CLASS & HOW LONG BEFORE I SEE RESULTS?
Each class is 50 minutes long.  The 3 factors that determine the results are frequency of workouts, ability to focus on the muscles and instructors directions and body awareness. Ideally, it is suggested 2-3 classes per week, consistently for a minimum of 10 weeks.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
It is recommended that you wear comfortable, breathable clothing that will allow you to move freely and allow the instructor to see how you are moving.  Nothing too loose so that it could catch in the apparatus that you will be working on.

WILL I LOSE WEIGHT?
Pilates can be an important part to a weight loss program as it lengthens and tones muscle groups to create a leaner appearance.  Many people notice that their clothes fit better.  However, Pilates is not typically a cardio workout i.e.running or aerobics which can often tighten and shorten the muscles.  Ideally, it would be recommended to pair your cardio, a well-balanced diet and your Pilates program all together.

WHAT IF I AM OVERWEIGHT?
Pilates is great for those who are engaged in a weight loss program as you learn to move your body in a fluid motion that focuses on utilizing your muscles rather than placing undue stress on your joint.

MY GYM HAS A PILATES CLASS, WHY GO TO A STUDIO?
The first reason would be the teacher training involved. Additionally, a studio has all of the apparatus used in a Pilates class while most gyms will have only mat classes or reformer class utilizing an inferior quality reformer.

I HAVE AN INJURY, WILL PILATES BE GOOD FOR ME?
Pilates is excellent for someone who has finished physical therapy and has doctor’s approval to begin an exercise program.
